UK Parliament raises university tuitions, as students take to London streetsAdd to Lightbox Download
For weeks now, Britain's students have been protesting a proposal from the new Conservative-led government that aims to triple tuition fees for university students. On 9 December, as the proposal went to vote in the parliament, tens of thousands of students marched a few miles from the University of London Union to just a couple hundred meters from parliament where they "kettled" (encircled) by police. While protestors argued with officers and burned bonfires to stay warm in the near freezing temperatures, parliamentarians passed the plan to raise tuitions by a majority of 21 votes.
