Originally created in 1978, The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was created to ensure oversee an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, who at that time began its occupation of southern Lebanon that lasted until 2000. After the Israeli war on Lebanon in 2006, UNIFIL enhanced its presence in southern Lebanon to monitor the cessation of hostilities. ..Pictured: A lookout post at the UNIFIL French camp "2.45" in al-Tiri in southern Lebanon. The French soldier is not allowed to hold the gun in this position because it would be considered an "aggressive move against the Lebanese."
