"Day of rage" in Beirut - Hariri supporters take to streetsAdd to Lightbox Download
Supporters of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri called for a "day of rage" across Lebanon on Tuesday, 25 January. In Sunni Muslim areas around the country protestors took to the streets to protest against the selection of Najib Mikati as Lebanon's new prime minister. Near Beirut's main Cola junction, young men from the Tariq al-Jadide neighborhood set fires to trash bins and tires, while the Lebanese army intervened putting out fires. The situation remains tense in Lebanon as supporters of Hariri's March 14 coalition protest as the former opposition March 8 coalition (which includes Hizballah) becoms the new majority in government.
