In the midst of their ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip, on 27 December Israel launched attacks by air, land and sea against the 1.5 million Palestinians of Gaza. The attacks, said to put an end to homemade rocket fire from armed groups in Gaza into Israel, left more than 1,300 Palestinians killed, the majority of whom were civilians including almost 450 children. Thousands of homes and businesses were also destroyed throughout the territory...The Israeli siege on Gaza, which began in June 2007, has prevented basic good from entering the territory. Palestinians in Gaza are constantly running out of cooking gas, which is sometimes not delivered for weeks, and when it is allowed in it's at an amount much less than what is needed. This creates a chaotic situation when gas becomes available with large amounts of people rushing to distributors around Gaza.///Once inside the distribution site, people pay for the gas at the company's office. Because of the chaotic scene, the Hamas government has provided security to try and maintain order at the numerous gas distributors across Gaza.
